9.0.5 FIRE MAGE UPDATE – New Best Legendary? Disciplinary Command rotation and build – Shadowlands

Disciplinary Command is something you need to know about as a Fire Mage changing in 9.0.5. The main thing to look out for Fire Mages is going to be your best legendary and it is no longer Fevered Incantion, rather Disciplinary Command is your new best legendary with a difference of about 3%. It is quite a bit and it is definitely going to be a lot of DPS for you probably around 200 DPS on average.

To use Disciplinary Command, you need to activate all three of your schools- Frost, Fire and Arcane. It will then activate a crit damage buff that lasts for 20 seconds. It also has an internal cooldown of 30 seconds. Basically it means it can be up 20 seconds out of every 30 seconds. This is pretty good up time but what you can do instead is you can just have it only up for combustion. And you lose a very small amount of value if you do it that way.

In terms of how you are going to proc this, on the pre pull you will cast Frost Nova before you begin your sequence on the mob and then you go straight into your hard cast pyro combustion. The reason why you go straight into combustion and inhabit proc right without Arcane is because Rune of Power actually activates this too. And the Rune of Power automatically drops whenever you pop combustion. So you do not need to worry about activating the Arcane aspect of this. There’s other ways to proc Arcane too, you can do mirror images, counter spells, shimmer etc. Trinkets also work, believe it or not. If you have the PVP trinket, it actually counts as Arcane so that’s another way that is fun to proc it. If you are a Void Elf, you have a proc that causes Shadow Frost damage and that could be a problem for you because you will be procking Frost all the time thus you do not have much control. You might want to race change or you may not want to craft this legendary.

During the combat, you are going to want to cast Frostbolt instead of Frost Nova to activate the sequence. There’s two reasons for this- the first is, Frostbolt does not incur a global cooldown after it finishes, second is that it does more damage. Basically if you have a Frostbolt cast and it’s the one that activates your Disciplinary Command, because you are not locked out of the GCD, afterwards you get more time out of Disciplinary Command. You will have higher up time overall in terms of your activity. There are many options for Arcane, Fire is always going to be something that is always locked. It really comes down to Frost which you should be really worried about.

There is a secret technique, the Endothermic Blaster, is a toy that works a 30 minute cooldown that is shorter during Winter Veil. You use this toy and it puts a buff on you that lasts 5 minutes and then it gives you an extra action button. Whenever you press this extra action button, it is a Frost school spell and it does not have a GCD nor cast time. Basically if you use this gun before combat, you would be holding a weird looking water gun the whole time you are fighting the mob. And if you press the extra action button, it will count as Frost. If you want a little bit of a cheat, whip out your Endothermic Blaster and use the extra action button and that will proc Frost for you.

Craft your Disciplinary Command on Ring because even if you know there is BOE that comes out for Ring, you still have another BOE slot to put on your Ring. So even if we do not know what BOE slots are coming out next year, Ring will be a safe option and you get more stats for it too. It is recommended to put haste on it too or haste mastery.
